Things Not to Do in College Essay
Things Not to Do in College EssayWhen you are writing your college essay, it is very easy to get into the trap of doing things that you shouldn't. In other words, you can get into what is known as a 'trap.' A trap is a common problem in writing where a writer gets bogged down in the details and falls back on using cliches. So, if you find yourself falling into this trap and want to get out of it, here are a few things not to do in college essay. One of the first things that you should never do is use a lot of clichés. The reason why cliches are bad is because they are repetitive. Your college essay is supposed to be a reflection of who you are and what you have experienced in your life. Instead of using clichés and repetitions, you should try to use an original idea. Write about something that you know something about and then write about it in such a way that makes it appear that you are bringing something new to the reader.Another thing that you should avoid is using descriptive p hrases. A good example of a bad description is 'a young man named John who lives in Cleveland...' This will sound awkward when writing and will definitely make you look like a hack. Instead, you should try to describe something that is not so easy to describe, like how a particular event or situation affected you. Even if this sounds difficult, writing about something that is difficult to describe will make the essay more interesting. So, instead of saying that John was in a car accident and lived in Ohio, you should say something like how John grew up in a family of six children, was raised Catholic, and had a father who loved him very much.Speaking of fathers, don't try to bore the reader with stories about how your father loved you so much. If your father was very important to you, he probably had some really great stories to tell. However, if he didn't have any stories to tell, he didn't make the grade. One of the best ways to make your father's impact on your life clear is to u se words like 'magnified' instead of 'altered.'Finally, you should always be careful about what you are writing about. Your college essay should be short, so it is best to stick to one topic and don't go off in too many directions. This is especially true when you are writing about personal experiences. If you are writing about an event or situation in your life, you will want to make sure that you don't stray too far from the subject. Your life is a very complex thing, and the details of a story, no matter how minute, are too confusing. When writing your university essay, you should also try to keep in mind that no topic is too simple or too complicated. You should take a lot of inspiration from previous events in your life and create a situation that is different from the norm. For example, instead of telling about what happened when you were fourteen, you could instead talk about what happened when you were twenty-one.Similarly, instead of going into a great deal of detail about a personal experience, you could instead consider a metaphor. When writing about an event, it is important to remember that it could be just as effective to draw a parallel between two opposing ideas. For example, instead of writing about how you learned to swim by swimming through a river, you could write about how your swimming experience became a metaphor for the experience of becoming a better person. So, as you can see, there are many things that you should avoid when writing your college essay. You will want to make sure that you use unique words that are not found in other writers, create a compelling story instead of repeating the same experiences over, and make sure that you remain focused on the purpose of the essay: teaching a person something about you.
