It is at that placefore, I confess, non a little hazardous in a private and profane individual, and a stranger too, consequently to solicit the indulgent premeditation of the public; especially when I own I raise here the history of neither a faint, a hero, nor a tyrant.

I believe there are few events in my life, which have not happened to m all: it is true the incidents of it are many; and, did I realise myself an European, [Page 3] I might claim my sufferings were gigantic: but when I compare my lot with that of virtually of my countrymen, I regard myself as a particular deary of Heaven, and comment the mercies of Providence in any occurrence of my life. If so the adjacent narrative does not appear sufficiently interest to go general attention, let my motive be almost save for its publication. I am not so unwisely idle as to gestate from it either immortality or literary reputation. If it affords any satisfaction to my many friends, at whole predication it has been written, or in the smallest degree promotes the interests of humanity, the ends for which it was undertaken will be well(p)y attained, and every wish of my total gratified.
